Thank You All So Much….

Owing to your fantastic support we gained enough votes to be successful in securing our funding from the Aviva Community Fund. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took the time to register their votes for us.

Our award of £1000 will enable us to continue to develop our club, the equipment and facilities we offer in order to continue to engage young people in a positive activity. This will also help support the clubs development as we look to offer more opportunities for our players in 2019. We have seen a great deal of growth in 2018 and while we have seen players move on our recruitment and retention remains steady. There are some exciting plans ahead for everyone involved in the Phoenix.

Alumni News

Being part of the Phoenix is more than just about playing with us, we are just a small part of what we hope will be a much longer involvement within the sport. As such we hope that the time spent with us enables players to progress and be successful at higher levels.

This year is the first year we have seen players move on from us and this year 4 of our players are part of University Football. Not to mention of course the current GB U19 squad players.

During the course of this season and beyond we hope to bring you news on these players and hope that they can provide positive inspiration for our current players and demonstrate that there are pathways for them to follow. We will always welcome our Alumni back to speak to and work with our youngsters and they will forever be a part of the Phoenix family.

This past weekend Phoenix Alumni Ed Beazleigh (#44) started his first game with the University Of Lincoln Colonials as they faced the Chester Legion in a BUCS Division 2A clash. The Colonials ran out impressive 39-0 winners and we are delighted to report that Ed put up some very impressive stats. Playing at his favoured Running Back position Ed carried the ball 8 times for a very impressive 90 yards and a Touchdown, this resulted in an average 11.25 yards per carry.

Unfortunately Ed was sidelined with a minor injury which meant he could not break the 100 yard barrier in his first game he has set down a marker for the next game.

It is fantastic to have seen our players past and present continuing to develop their skills and progress within the sport and we look forward to bringing you many more updates in the future.

Thank You…..

We say thank you a lot but we have a lot to be thankful for. The attitude of our players, commitment of our coaches, support of our parents and volunteers. In the past couple of years we have achieved a great deal through hard work and a positive approach to our development. We have continued to grow and improve our organisation, offering more development and progression than ever before and are committed to continuing this in the future.

We continue to increase our team both on and off the field and have seen our players push themselves to the highest possible level. We’ve seen a number of new players start their journey in the Sport and these will take part in a number of events over the remainder of the season to test their skills and challenge their development. As we have set out since the start of our organisation this will all be done with the focus and emphasis on learning and development, building knowledge of the sport and most of all having fun. We are also working hard to continue to improve the facilities we can provide in order to support our club and to provide the best possible platform to engage both our players and the local community.

We are proud to recruit players from a wide area in our region, the fact that some players and parents travel a considerable distance demonstrates that we are providing an activity and club that people want to and enjoy being a part of. As a result of our hard work we are honoured to have been nominated as Junior Club Of The Year in the Medway Sports Awards. These bi-annual awards look to celebrate and reward achievements of Clubs, Individuals, Schools and Teacher’s within the Medway area. Following the nomination process we have been Shortlisted for the award and will be attending the awards evening in December where the Gold, Silver and Bronze awards will be presented by Double Winter Olympic Medallist Lizzy Yarnold.

We are hugely proud of our club and humbled by this nomination, it simply could not be possible without the support and hard work put in by everyone. We wish luck to all those who have been shortlisted as well and congratulate all the fantastic organisations nominated or not, each and every club at its heart is trying to engage young people and encourage participation in a positive activity.

U12 Cadets Get New Shirts For 2018/19

Posted on 12 November, 2018 at 3:50 Comments comments (0)

We are delighted to reveal the new kits our Under 12 Flag team will be wearing for the 2018/19 season.

Designed and produced by our new supplier Nuola we couldn't be more delighted with them. Keeping the camo theme typical with our previous shirts we consulted with the players to get their input on the final design. Moving to a Grey/Black colour gives our Cadet team its own identity within the organisation and ensures they stand out during training or events. The addition of the Phoenix logo on the left hip looks great and the Pink numbers/lettering was chosen by the players really stands out on the shirt.

We are determined to continue to develop this very important playing group and encourage more young people to get involved in our sport from an early age in order to begin to learn and develop their skills. We are delighted at the increase in female players within this group, we are closing in on a 50/50 split which would be amazing and perhaps we could be on the way to creating an all female team.

2018/19 promise to be a busy and exciting year for this group with it taking part in friendly scrimmages as well as entering the BAFA National League. As with all events these will provide our players with opportunities to test their skills and learn. We look forward to the challenges these wil provide and are keen to continue toencourage new players to join and get involved in our organisation and the sport.

Phoenix Join Parlimentary Group For American Football

Posted on 12 September, 2017 at 13:35 Comments comments (1)

Kent Phoenix were today welcomed as the first American Football club to join the newly reformed Parliamentary All Party Group for American Football. The group which has had an extended hiatus due to Elections is formed principally of Members of Parliament with the aim to looking at issues and finding way to develop and promote the sport in the United Kingdom. In its new guise there is scope for member of the public, organisations and clubs to become members of this group, in doing so they will then be invited to the groups open meetings and be given opportunity to have their input into the future development and growth of the sport. American Football has been growing in popularity and following for a number of years and the Kent Phoenix themselves, as one of the UK's only Youth dedicated clubs, have found increasing interest and membership.

A press release on the Groups website this morning contained the following statement from the Chair Peter Bone, MP for Wellingborough.

“I’m delighted Kent Phoenix Youth American Football Club have joined the Parliamentary Group for American Football, and I congratulate them on being the first club to join the Group. They and all other clubs are most welcome and I am looking forward to meeting them at our first Ordinary Meeting next month.”

Phoenix Chairman Lee Parsons added,

“It is great to see there are Members of the British Parliament who support American Football, and who welcome non-politicians as members to hear their thoughts. I was pleased to see the opportunity for us to get involved and I’m thrilled to see our name at the top of the club member list. I and the club are looking forward to attending our first meeting in October.”

The full press release can be read here https://www.parliamentary.football/appggafgnews/first-club-joins-parliamentary-american-football-group/" target="_blank">https://www.parliamentary.football/appggafgnews/first-club-joins-parliamentary-american-football-group/

For such a young club the Kent Phoenix have again shown their commitment towards developing the sport and building a program that not only provides a playing outlet but places itself at the heart of the community.

Phoenix U17's Enter The Fray

Posted on 3 May, 2017 at 4:45 Comments comments (0)

Last September the Kent Phoenix formed and one of its key goals was to push forward with its development of an Under 17's team to play in the BAFA National League. Youth Kitted Football has not been played in the county town for a number of years, aside from a couple of practice/demonstration events, and in order to promote and sustain a Youth only American Football Club participation within the National League is key as it provides the only opportunity for our U17's to play competitively.

Having trained and recruited throughout the Autumn and winter the squad is ready and keen to get on the field to show how far they have come but also to continue to learn and develop their skills and awareness of the sport. The coaches have worked hard to pass on their knowledge and teach the youngsters the principals of the game. Sadly as is the nature of sport we have picked up some injuries to key players along the way, but this has only spurred on remaining squad to step up and play on for their downed teammates. The spirit and togetherness shown by these young men is inspiring to all within the organisation and their support of the younger Phoenix Flag teams continues to show how well bonded the organisation is.

Following a protracted scheduling period the Phoenix now have their 4 event schedule for the 2017 season. First up is a home event attended by the Kent Exiles (Outlaws), East Kent Mavericks and the South London Renegades. From there the Phoenix hit the road for 3 further tournaments at Essex Spartans, South London Renegades and finishing up at Kent Exiles (Outlaws).

This is a busy and exciting period for the organisation as a while with the SEYAF Flag Championships coming to a conclusion it is a real chance for us all to show how far we have come and to lay a solid foundation for future growth.

It is still a great time to join the Phoenix and get involved in a sport that offers so much opportunity for all. If you know of anyone who may be interested contact [email protected] for more information.

Funding The Future

Posted on 14 April, 2017 at 6:00 Comments comments (0)

The Kent Phoenix are delighted to confirm the award of £10k from Sport England following a successful Small Grants Funding application. The application which was submitted with support from American Football Development Ltd (AFD) is a significant step forward for us and a vindication of the hard work carried out by such a young organisation. Since its formation in September 2016 the Phoenix have developed and grown as an organisation and demonstrated that Youth specific American Football programs are not only viable but sustainable, the ability to control and focus its attention and tailor its delivery to a Younger audience has seen numbers grow and participation and awareness increase.

We have Flag teams participating in Regional competition and our Under 17 kitted team have a busy schedule competing within the British American Football National League. As one of the most inclusive sports we have seen an increase in the number of young girls playing and have delivered community development opportunities which have introduced our sport to more young people in our local and wider communities than ever before. We are keen to see this work continue.

In submitting our application we ensured that we put forward a plan that would enable us make maximum use of the funding available in order to deliver quickly the goals and aims set out in our plan. Working with AFD we have developed a plan to run a Schools Flag program that will not only allow us to introduce the sport to a number of local secondary schools but will also provide training for staff as well as a tournament day which will enable the schools involved to compete against each other. Through this program we will look to promote the sport and Kent Phoenix creating pathways for young children involved in Schools programs to progress into community American Football. AFD will be contacting a number of schools in the coming weeks to set this program up and we will follow their progress through our Facebook, Twitter and website.

We will also be able to set up and run Coaching development sessions that will provide our coaching staff the opportunity to enhance their skills and continue to deliver the highest standard of training and development to our young players. Our goal as an organisation is to always focus our program on skills development and fun. In doing this we will continue to provide all our children with the best possible introduction to American Football and opportunities to play to the highest standard.

Finally we will look to improve the training equipment we need to deliver fun and progressive training sessions. American Football requires a great deal of specialised equipment in order to ensure we are able to fully develop our players skills and abilities, the funding will allow us to purchase some items of equipment that would otherwise be out of our budget. Fun training session encourage greater attendance at training and get more young people interested in joining our organisation.

We are hugely grateful to Sport England for supporting our plans and to AFD for helping us move closer to achieving them.

The Phoenix are Rising......
